A call for vigilance and increased focus—Khalid Jamil wants no more errors in the Uruguay match
Jamil's instructions are straightforward — India must remain focused from the first minute until the final whistle and avoid the errors that hurt them against Brazil. One of his biggest priorities will be to prevent Uruguay from scoring early.

After suffering a 4-0 defeat to five-time world champions Brazil, India now face another Latin American giant and two-time FIFA World Cup winners Uruguay. While India put up a spirited fight against Brazil, small mistakes at crucial moments proved costly and eventually resulted in four goals being conceded. Ahead of the Uruguay clash, India head coach Khalid Jamil has made his message to the players clear: they cannot afford to repeat those mistakes.
Jamil stressed the need for greater caution and concentration throughout the match. The India coach wants his players to learn from the Brazil game and ensure that lapses in focus do not cost them against another top-quality opponent.
India began the current FIFA international window with a 1-1 draw against Panama in Bengaluru before going down 4-0 to Brazil in Kolkata. The Blue Tigers will now play their final match of the window against Uruguay in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Jamil's instructions are straightforward — India must remain focused from the first minute until the final whistle and avoid the errors that hurt them against Brazil. One of his biggest priorities will be to prevent Uruguay from scoring early.
“We are going to play against a very good team. One mistake can become very important. We have to be careful,” Jamil said, underlining the importance of concentration.
Uruguay arrive in India on the back of an impressive 4-1 victory over South Korea. India, meanwhile, have had very little time to recover and prepare after the Brazil match. However, Jamil does not want the short turnaround to become an excuse. Instead, he is dreaming of a memorable night for Indian football.
While the coach has called for greater discipline and concentration, defender Akash Mishra offered an emotional insight into how deeply the Brazil defeat affected him.
“I don't like losing at all. After the match against Brazil, I felt so bad that I did not exchange jerseys with any Brazilian player,” Mishra said.
Although the defender admitted that the defeat will be difficult to forget, he insisted that the disappointment will not affect India's approach against Uruguay. The focus now is firmly on producing a better performance and turning the lessons from the Brazil game into action against another world-class opponent.
