Arshdeep Leads India’s New-Look Pace Attack as Young Guns Step Up in New Zealand
India’s pace attack had a point to prove in New Zealand, and the next generation responded emphatically. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, a relatively inexperienced Indian fast-bowling unit combined effectively to bowl New Zealand out for 185 in 40.2 overs.

Xtratime Webdesk: Arshdeep Singh spearheaded India’s pace attack with a four-wicket burst as the new-look bowling unit tore through New Zealand for 185 at Eden Park. India turned to less-experienced pace bowlers as their main ones were unavailable. They combined pace, discipline and relentless pressure to bowl the hosts out in just 40.2 overs.
Arshdeep Singh produced one of his best ODI performances against New Zealand. The left-arm pacer finished with figures of 4/70 from his 10 overs. He became only the third Indian fast bowler to claim a four-wicket haul in an ODI in New Zealand. Javagal Srinath and Mohammed Shami were other bowlers who had 4-wicket hauls in the sport.
Arshdeep’s figures also rank as the fourth-best ODI bowling performance by an Indian pacer in New Zealand. Srinath occupies the top two positions with 4/52 and 4/23, while Shami has a 4/55 to his name. Arshdeep came close to creating an even bigger piece of history, with one more wicket potentially making him only the second Indian bowler after Anil Kumble to take an ODI five-for in the country.
However, the performance was about more than Arshdeep. Gurnoor Brar provided valuable support with 3/44, using his height, pace and bounce to repeatedly trouble the New Zealand batters. Anshul Kamboj was equally disciplined, returning 2/22 from his 10 overs and bowling 46 dot balls.
With established names missing, India needed their emerging quicks to handle the responsibility. They did exactly that. Arshdeep’s experience provided the leadership, while Gurnoor and Kamboj showed that India’s fast-bowling depth continues to develop.
The result was a collective statement: even without their biggest pace-bowling names, India have options capable of stepping up when the opportunity arrives.
