Bengal Cricketer Abishek Porel Arrested Over Rape Allegations
In a major setback for Bengal cricket, cricketer Abishek Porel has been arrested in connection with rape allegations filed by a medical student. The Bengal and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter was arrested based on a complaint in which the woman alleged that Porel established a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage.

In a major setback for Bengal cricket, cricketer Abishek Porel has been arrested in connection with rape allegations filed by a medical student. The Bengal and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter was arrested based on a complaint in which the woman alleged that Porel established a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage.
Porel was taken into custody by Mogra Police on Tuesday and was formally arrested after questioning. He was subsequently sent for a medical examination and produced before the Chinsurah Court.
According to the complaint, the woman was in a relationship with Porel and claimed that discussions about their marriage had also taken place between their respective families. She alleged that the relationship later deteriorated after she came to know that Porel was allegedly involved with other women.
The complaint includes allegations of sexual assault, criminal intimidation and the recording of private moments. The woman has further alleged that intimate photographs or videos were used to intimidate or threaten her.
One of the incidents mentioned in the complaint allegedly took place in Delhi on April 2, 2026. The woman claimed that she was confined inside a room, was not provided food and was left physically weak to such an extent that she eventually required medical treatment.
The Calcutta High Court directed the police to take necessary steps in connection with the case. The court also ordered the seizure of Porel's electronic devices to ensure that any private photographs or videos were not circulated. Police have already seized a pen drive and sent it for forensic examination.
Abishek Porel, who represents Bengal in domestic cricket and the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, will now face the legal proceedings arising from the case.
It is important to note that the allegations against Porel have not been proven in court. The investigation is currently underway, and he remains entitled to due process under the law.
