XtraTime Webdesk: Sunil Gavaskar, the former captain of India, has heavily criticized the batting performance of the Indian team after their 24-run defeat against the West Indies in the fourth T20I. According to Gavaskar, the Indian batting unit needs to take some greater responsibility while chasing some huge targets.
In the fourth T20I, the West Indies team batted first and made a formidable 247 runs for 3 with Shai Hope making an unbeaten 102. While chasing this total, India managed to make 223 runs; even after Sanju Samson's explosive performance, they fell short by 24 runs. Sanju made an explosive start with 56 runs in just 23 balls; however, the other Indian batters failed to maintain the momentum.
In a recent interview with JioStar, Gavaskar spoke about the need for India to improve their approach while chasing huge totals. According to Gavaskar, the team should have made better use of the batting-friendly conditions, particularly with the dew expected to assist the batters.
Sunil Gavaskar also pointed to the contributions of individual players like Abhishek Sharma's struggles, Ishan Kishan's dismissal against Keemo Paul and Shreyas Iyer's recent batting form. Caribbean bowler Keemo Paul finished with impressive figures of 5/41, while playing a pivotal role in restricting India's chase.
While expressing concerns over India's batting, Gavaskar was more understanding of the inexperienced bowlers, emphasizing that they need time to learn from their mistakes at the international level. With the fourth T20I defeat, the five-match series stands level at 2-2. India will now look forward to the fifth T20I to win the match and secure a series victory.
