Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have appointed Zaheer Khan as their new head coach. The franchise announced the development on social media, confirming that the former Indian pacer will replace Stephen Fleming, who had been in charge since 2009.
Fleming’s association with CSK has come to an end after the team failed to qualify for the playoffs for three consecutive seasons.
Zaheer Khan represented India in 92 Tests, 200 ODIs and 17 T20Is. He was the leading wicket-taker for India in the 2011 World Cup-winning team, claiming 21 wickets in the tournament.
After retiring from international cricket in 2017, Zaheer took on various roles with different IPL franchises. During his IPL career as a player, he represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals.
In 2019, Zaheer was appointed Mumbai Indians’ Director of Cricket Operations. He later served as the franchise’s Head of Global Development, contributing to its wider cricketing structure.
In 2025, Zaheer Khan was announced as the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants. However, he stepped down from the role before the start of the season.
As a player, Zaheer featured in 100 IPL matches and claimed 102 wickets at an average of 27.27. Across all formats for India, he finished his international career with 602 wickets.
