Another six off the very first ball he faced! Abhishek Sharma has achieved this feat seven times, setting a new world record in T20 Internationals. The Indian opener created history on Thursday in the first T20I against New Zealand in Christchurch.
New Zealand scored 225/8 in 20 overs. When India began their chase, Abhishek faced Matt Henry for the first time in the sixth ball of the opening over and dispatched it straight over the boundary for a six.
With this, Abhishek surpassed Afghanistan’s Shafiqullah Shinwari, who had hit a six off the first ball he faced on six occasions. Suryakumar Yadav occupies third place on the list, having achieved the feat five times. Three other cricketers have done it four times each: Ireland’s Paul Stirling, New Zealand’s Colin Munro and the UAE’s Mohammad Naveed.
Abhishek and Sanju Samson gave India a sensational start to their innings, piling up 93 runs in just 5.5 overs. However, Jacob Duffy broke their partnership, dismissing Abhishek Sharma for 29 off just 12 balls.
