Shock Ban for Australia Pacer Megan Schutt Over Medication Breach
XtraTime Webdesk: Megan Schutt, Australia's experienced fast bowler, has received a two-match suspension from Cricket Australia for breaching regulations governing the use of prescription medication. The 33-year-old fast bowler will miss the third and final T20I against New Zealand, as well as the opening match for Adelaide Strikers in the Women's Big Bash League.
According to Cricket Australia, the breach involved a failure to comply with its Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines concerning prescription medication. The board clarified that the incident occurred outside the competitive environment and was not related to performance enhancement.
As a result of this suspension, Schutt will be unavailable for Australia’s final T20I against New Zealand at North Sydney Oval on Thursday. She will also miss Adelaide Strikers’ WBBL opener against Melbourne Stars on October 31.
Schutt accepted the sanction and apologised for failing to meet the standards expected of Australian cricketers. She acknowledged that players receive regular education about the relevant guidelines and said it was her responsibility to follow them.
The suspension comes shortly after Schutt enjoyed an impressive ODI series against Bangladesh, where she claimed 10 wickets at an average of 7.1 and was named Player of the Series.
Her absence will be a setback for Australia in their final T20I against New Zealand, and Adelaide Strikers will also have to manage without the experienced pacer at the beginning of their WBBL campaign.
Cricket Australia has reiterated its commitment to supporting Schutt while reinforcing the responsibilities expected of players representing the country. The governing body has emphasised that the breach was an isolated incident and was not intended to enhance sporting performance.
