Amit Mishra has joined Sourav Ganguly’s coaching team at Delhi Capitals. The franchise has appointed the former India leg-spinner as its spin bowling coach.
After Sourav Ganguly took over as head coach of Delhi Capitals, Yuvraj Singh was appointed batting coach. Mishra is the latest addition to the coaching staff, taking charge of the spin bowling department.
Mishra played 162 IPL matches for four franchises during his career. After announcing his retirement in September last year, this will be his first assignment as a coach. He represented Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.
Announcing his appointment on social media, Delhi Capitals wrote, “The OG Tiger is back! Our highest wicket-taker in the IPL, Amit Mishra, is now our coach.”
Mishra is among the most successful wicket-takers in IPL history. He claimed 174 wickets in 162 matches and holds the record for the most hat-tricks in the tournament. The former leg-spinner achieved the feat three times in the IPL.
Speaking about his new role, Mishra said that Delhi holds a special place in his heart and that he would do everything possible to make the fans happy.
Mishra represented India across all three formats between 2003 and 2017. He played 22 Tests, 36 One-Day Internationals and 10 T20 Internationals for the country.
His appointment adds further experience to the Delhi Capitals coaching set-up as the franchise looks to strengthen its support staff.
