Bangladesh created history by defeating Australia on Australian soil for the first time in Test cricket, securing a stunning nine-wicket victory. The architect of the historic triumph was Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who produced a brilliant all-round performance. After scoring a crucial half-century in Bangladesh’s first innings, Mehidy claimed five wickets in Australia’s second innings to put his team firmly in control.

Starting the day at 161 for four, Australia were bowled out for 284 in their second innings, leaving Bangladesh with a target of just 57 runs. Cameron Green fought a lone battle for the hosts, scoring a determined 104 off 201 balls, but his century was not enough to prevent Australia from suffering a historic defeat.

Australia had been under pressure from the very beginning. After winning the toss and opting to field, Bangladesh responded with a commanding 426 in their first innings. Australia had earlier been dismissed for just 198, with Steve Smith top-scoring with 71. Bangladesh’s huge first-innings lead of 228 runs put Australia on the back foot.

The hosts desperately needed a strong response in the second innings, but Mehidy Hasan once again proved to be the difference-maker. His five-wicket haul shattered Australia’s hopes of making a comeback.

The defeat is a major blow for Australian cricket and one of the most significant losses in their 149-year Test history. It is also Bangladesh’s second Test victory over Australia, following their famous win in Dhaka in 2017.

The result could increase pressure on the Australian selectors, while their position in the World Test Championship race has also become more difficult. Australia face challenging Test assignments against South Africa, India and England over the next year, making this historic defeat an even bigger setback.
