Xtra Time Newsdesk: Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will lead the Bihar team in this year's edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy starting on the 14th of November. At just 15 years old, he has become a phenomenon and his domestic team has rewarded him by appointing him as a captain at such a young age.
The Bihar Cricket Association(BCA) has also appointed Suri Kashyap as the vice-captain.
Bihar is in Group B along side some heavy hitters like Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Railways, Saurashtra and Tamil Nadu.
BCA president Harsh Vardhan said the captaincy would provide Sooryavanshi a chance to grow as a leader.
“Vaibhav has already demonstrated tremendous talent, confidence and maturity at a young age. We are hopeful that under his leadership, the team will deliver a disciplined and competitive performance,” he said.
Sooryavanshi, representing Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, has debuted for India in T20Is, having participated in 10 matches to date.
He was the leading run-scorer in IPL 2026, accumulating 776 runs in 16 innings with an impressive strike rate exceeding 237.
He also scored a match-winning 175 from 80 balls to lead India to a 100-run triumph against England in the Under-19 World Cup final.
The left-handed batsman recently played in the third T20 International versus New Zealand, making 45 runs from 19 balls in a first-wicket partnership of 133 with Abhishek Sharma.
