Ireland shocks the cricketing world; sweep world champions India 2-0 and win the series

XtraTime Newsdesk: Indian cricket went through a shocking Sunday. India getting knocked out of the Women’s T20 World Cup wasn’t much of a surprise as they were facing Australia but the men’s team getting swept by Ireland in a T20 series(no less) will go down as one of the most shocking results in cricket history.
India are the reigning T20 World Cup champions. They won the trophy three months back under captain Suryakumar Yadav but the BCCI decided to change some things before the next T20 World Cup in 2028. Shreyas Iyer was made the captain and Yadav was dropped due to a significant decline in form. People expected a lot from the Iyer “regime” but the start has been less than ideal.
While pitches in the IPL are flat and conducive for power hitting, Ireland was a bit different. Indian batters were at sea with the movement and bounce.T20 World Cup hero Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma couldn’t adapt to the conditions.
The other batters struggled as well, including captain Iyer. The team was also their strongest available XI( except for a player here and there) yet they couldn't beat a young Ireland side. Credit to the batsmen who recovered each time they were down against this strong Indian side.
Jai Moondra and Matt Holland made sure the Indian batters felt the heat. Moondra was , even, judged the Man of the Series. It will be a victory the Ireland cricket team will remember for the rest of their lives.
For India, they will have to re-think things before facing England in the 1st T20I. Can debuting Vaibhav Sooryavanshi be the magic pill India needs? He needs to be given at least one match against England. Yet, it feels like this will be a new era. Will it be great or will it all end up in tears? Only time can tell
