Cody Gakpo Gets Surrounded By Teammates In An Emotional Moment After Scoring Netherlands' Solitary Goal

XtraTime Newsdesk: Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo has gone through a torrid week. He and his partner, Noa Van Der Bij recently suffered the heart-breaking loss of their unborn second child, who they were going to name Elijah. The couple, who share a young son named Samuel, was expecting Elijah on October.

Despite this tragedy, Gakpo has decided to stay with the team. Hence, it was a very emotional moment when he scored the goal for Netherlands and made it 1-0 at the 72nd minute. His teammates surrounded him as he fell to his knees after scoring. It was indeed an emotional moment for the Liverpool forward and all the players were providing him support.

On Saturday, Gakpo's model partner Van Der Bij posted, "With broken hearts, we share the devastating news that our baby boy passed away during pregnancy," she wrote.

"Thank you for your love and support. Elijah Raphael Gakpo. Forever loved. Forever our son."

Gakpo started all of his country's games at the World Cup and had scored three goals in four matches. Unfortunately, he was substituted in the 113th minute hence he couldn't participate in the penalty shootout.

After Gakpo scored his goal, Issa Diop equalized with a header during stoppage time. This forced the extra time and penalties, on which Morocco went on to qualify for the Round of 16.
