Could Ronaldinho be set for a sensational return to professional football? The 46-year-old Brazilian legend has certainly dropped a hint in that direction.
Eleven years after his last professional appearance, Ronaldinho could be preparing to step back onto the pitch. Last June, the former Barcelona star joined Italian club Ravenna and revealed that he believes he is in good enough shape to score the 300th goal of his career.
Speaking to the BBC, Ronaldinho said he is enjoying life with his friends and is part of a team that has the potential to achieve something special. When asked about his own involvement on the pitch, he admitted that the final decision would depend on the coach.
“It feels great to be back in Italy. It would feel even better if I could score my 300th goal,” Ronaldinho said.
The Brazilian joined Ravenna on Thursday as part of the club’s ownership project, while also registering as a player. The occasion was celebrated as “Ronaldinho Day”, with around 6,000 fans turning up to welcome the football icon.
Ronaldinho last played a professional match in September 2015. A member of Brazil’s 2002 World Cup-winning squad, he went on to enjoy a glittering career with clubs including Barcelona, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
Now, with his arrival at third-tier Italian side Ravenna, the football world is waiting to see whether the magician can make one more appearance on the professional stage—and perhaps complete his dream of scoring the 300th goal of his career.
