Heartbreak for India: Neeraj Chopra’s Season Ends in Tears After Devastating Ankle Injury Rules Him Out of Asian Games!
India’s star javelin thrower has been ruled out of the Diamond League Final and the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, after suffering a ligament tear in his ankle during training. Chopra confirmed the news through a social media post, revealing that after consulting doctors and his team, he had decided to step away from competition and focus entirely on rehabilitation.
For Neeraj Chopra, the 2026 season was supposed to be about finding his way back to consistency. Instead, just when things appeared to be falling into place, an ankle injury has brought his campaign to a heartbreaking halt.
The timing could not have been more disappointing. “After a period of hard work, I finally felt I was gaining the momentum I had been looking for with a season’s best throw in Lausanne,” Chopra wrote. “After discussions with my doctor and team, we have decided that I will sit out the rest of this season.”
His absence comes as a major setback for India’s medal hopes at the Asian Games. Chopra’s season had been a mixed one after returning from a lengthy injury layoff. He finished fourth at the Doha Diamond League with an 85.69 m throw before winning silver in Glasgow with an 85.83 m throw. The Lausanne Diamond League, his third competitive appearance of the season, had offered encouraging signs that he was gradually returning to his best.
But sport can be cruel. Just when Chopra seemed ready to rediscover his rhythm, injury intervened. For now, the javelin star must put competition aside and begin another battle, one centred not on distance, but on recovery and a stronger return.
