Bellingham Accused of Using Abusive Language After England-Ghana Draw

Xtratime Web Desk: A fresh controversy has emerged following England’s goalless draw against Ghana, with allegations of abusive language involving Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham.

The 0-0 draw between England and Ghana at Boston Stadium was overshadowed by a heated exchange between players and coaching staff. Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has accused Bellingham of using offensive language during a tense moment following an on-field incident.

The controversy began in the first half when Bellingham was involved in a challenge on Ghana defender Jerome Opoku. Ghanaian players immediately appealed for a yellow card, claiming the tackle was reckless. Tensions continued to rise, and as the teams headed toward the dressing rooms at halftime, Bellingham was seen exchanging words with members of the Ghana squad.

During the match, television cameras also captured Bellingham covering his mouth while speaking, sparking widespread discussion on social media and in international media outlets. The incident has led to questions about the application of the so-called “Vinícius Law,” particularly after Paraguayan midfielder Miguel Almirón was sent off for similar conduct only days earlier.

According to reports, Paraguayan football authorities are considering filing an official complaint with FIFA regarding consistency in disciplinary decisions. Critics argue that similar incidents should be judged by the same standards.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Queiroz claimed that Bellingham had reacted poorly during the confrontation.

“Bellingham reacted badly and used abusive language,” said the 73-year-old Portuguese coach.

Queiroz explained that his intention had been to calm the situation.

“I simply asked him to calm down. He had gone into the challenge with his foot raised toward my player. My main concern was reducing the tension because I feared the player was not fully fit,” he said.

The Ghana coach added that such incidents are not unusual in highly competitive matches.

“These things happen in football during moments of intense emotion. The words Jude Bellingham used made the situation more heated, but eventually everyone calmed down. Football is not ballroom dancing; it is a competitive sport.”

Bellingham, however, described the incident as a product of competitive emotions rather than hostility.

“To be honest, I made a silly tackle,” Bellingham admitted. “I was trying to win the ball back and went a little too far, catching the opposing player. Later, I spoke with him, but by then their bench was calling for a yellow card.”

The England international also spoke respectfully about Queiroz.

“I recognized the coach. He worked with Manchester United, and I have a lot of respect for him. In the end, it was simply a reflection of the competitive mentality of both teams,” Bellingham said.

Meanwhile, British newspaper the Daily Mail analyzed footage of the incident with the help of lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling. According to her assessment, Ghana coaching staff member John Paintsil was seen directing an offensive remark toward Bellingham during the confrontation.

The incident continues to generate debate across the football world. Whether FIFA or the relevant authorities decide to launch a formal investigation remains to be seen.
