Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Records and Creates World Cup History Against Uzbekistan
Facing intense scrutiny after Portugal's opening 1-1 draw against DR Congo, the legendary forward answered his critics in the most characteristic way possible

XtraTime Newsdesk: There is simply no stopping Cristiano Ronaldo. Facing intense scrutiny after Portugal's opening 1-1 draw against DR Congo, the legendary forward answered his critics in the most characteristic way possible: by conquering records that no male football player has ever touched before.
With his clinical brace against Uzbekistan at the Houston Stadium, Ronaldo secured multiple monumental achievements on a single historic night.
The Six-Tournament Immortal
By latching onto a low cross from João Cancelo and burying a right-footed strike in the 6th minute, Ronaldo became the first male player to score in six separate World Cup editions (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026).
While long-time rival Lionel Messi equaled the six-tournament appearance record just a day prior, Ronaldo stands entirely alone as the only player to find the back of the net across six different iterations of football's ultimate prize.
Equaling the Great Eusébio
Ronaldo’s masterclass did not stop with his opening goal. In the 39th minute, he combined flawlessly with Bruno Fernandes to slot home his second goal of the match and his 10th career World Cup goal.
The first goal of the night brought him to nine, which equaled Eusébio’s long-standing record as Portugal’s all-time top scorer at the global finals. His second strike officially nudged him ahead, cementing his place at the absolute peak of Portuguese World Cup history.
Defying the Clock at 41
Outside of his scoring prowess, Ronaldo's presence on the pitch broke physical barriers. At 41 years and 138 days old, he took the field as the oldest non-goalkeeper to ever start a World Cup match. His historic strikes make him the second-oldest goalscorer in the tournament's history, trailing only Cameroon’s iconic Roger Milla.
