A pall of grief has descended over Bengal's sporting community following the demise of Gaurav Goenka, one of the pioneers of the blind cricket movement in the state and a distinguished sports administrator. Mourning in Bengal Sports Fraternity as Blind Cricket Pioneer Gaurav Goenka Passes Away

Xtratime Web Desk: A pall of grief has descended over Bengal's sporting community following the demise of Gaurav Goenka, one of the pioneers of the blind cricket movement in the state and a distinguished sports administrator. After a prolonged illness, he breathed his last on Monday, June 22, while undergoing treatment in Delhi. At the time of his death, he was serving as the West Bengal representative of the Blind Cricket Association (BCA).

Gaurav Goenka's contribution to the growth and development of blind cricket in Bengal was immense. It was through his initiative, dedication, and tireless efforts that organized blind cricket took shape in the state. Not only was he an accomplished administrator, but his passion and commitment to the sport also earned him widespread respect within the sporting fraternity.

Goenka was a member of the Indian team that participated in the inaugural Blind Cricket World Cup held in Delhi in 1998. Later, he transitioned from being a player to an administrator and continued to work relentlessly for the advancement of blind cricket. He was also a Life Member of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

Members of the sports community believe that Bengal blind cricket has lost a guardian-like figure with his passing. Colleagues, players, and well-wishers have expressed that the void left by his absence will be difficult to fill.

Gaurav Goenka's last rites will be performed today, June 23, at 12:30 PM at Kolkata's Keoratala Mahashmashan.

Various sports organizations, former and current cricketers have expressed deep condolences on his passing. They have prayed for the eternal peace of his soul and extended their heartfelt sympathies to his bereaved family.
