Colombia Beat Ghana 1-0 to Reach FIFA World Cup Round of 16
Colombia secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ghana to book their place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup

Web Desk: Colombia secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ghana to book their place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup. The only goal of the match came from Jhon Arias, as Néstor Lorenzo's side dominated proceedings from start to finish.
Colombia will now face Switzerland on Tuesday in a bid to reach the quarter-finals.
The South American side suffered an early setback when forward Jhon Córdoba was forced off with a groin injury. He was replaced by Luis Suárez, whose introduction proved decisive.
Suárez made an immediate impact, collecting a pass from Daniel Muñoz before delivering an excellent cross into the penalty area. Arias met it with a composed finish, giving Colombia a deserved 1-0 lead.
Colombia continued to control the game after the break and created several opportunities to extend their advantage. In the 56th minute, Luis Díaz found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Díaz later came close again, only to be denied by Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi, who produced a series of impressive saves to keep his side in the contest.
Despite Colombia's dominance, Ghana struggled to threaten in attack. The Black Stars saw little of the ball and failed to create clear-cut chances throughout the match. Although they registered eight attempts at goal, none were on target.
With the victory over Ghana, Colombia advance to the Round of 16 and will now turn their focus to a crucial knockout clash against Switzerland as they chase a place in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals.
