Glenn Phillips, Duffy Ensure NZ Keep Heads Held High Against India With a Dominant Win in the 4th T20i
Earlier today, India won the toss and chose to bowl(as they have in every match). Phillips decided to spoil India's party with a powerful 107 off 49 balls. That innings consisted of 10 sixes and 6 fours, making him the 2nd New Zealand player ever to hit a T20 century against India.
Xtra Time Newsdesk: New Zealand finally got a win in the T20I series against India after a dominant century by Glenn Phillips and a 4fer by Jacob Duffy. India already had an unassailable 0-3 lead, but the Kiwis had decided that their pride was at stake in the 4th T20I. With this victory, they go into the final T20I 1-3 down.
Phillips found an able partner in Michael Bracewell, who scored a quick 25-ball 65. That partnership lasted for 115 runs and blunted the confidence of India's bowling attack. Their knocks helped the Kiwis get 259/7 in 20 overs. On any other day, that total would be insurmountable, but India's batting depth made anything possible.
Jacob Duffy put those apprehensions to rest as he dismissed Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan in the first over itself. India's gunpowder was virtually destroyed as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was absent, and Abhishek Sharma returned to the dugout before he could turn his start into a huge score (27 off 15 balls).
While attempting to stay up with the rising run rate, the rest of the batting lineup made reckless decisions. Santner (2/24) bowled four frugal overs to prevent India from making a comeback, while Duffy ended with figures of 4/23.
