XtraTime Newsdesk: Aryaveer Sehwag grabbed the spotlight on his India U-19 debut, while Anvay Dravid produced a quickfire innings as India’s junior team defeated Australia U-19 by seven runs in a rain-affected match in Rajkot on Friday.
There was a special touch to the victory. Years ago, Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid formed a formidable opening partnership and played crucial roles in many Indian victories. On Friday, it was their sons who came together to help the young Indian team secure a memorable win.
The match at the Niranjan Shah Stadium was reduced to 20 overs because of rain. After winning the toss, Australia chose to bowl first, but India posted an imposing 182 for six.
Yashvardhan Chouhan led the scoring with an impressive 34-ball 54. Anvay Dravid provided the acceleration with a blistering 18-ball 38, while Aryaveer Sehwag marked his debut with a composed 28 off 26 balls, including five boundaries. Virender Sehwag was present at the stadium to watch his son make his India U-19 debut.
Australia started their chase strongly. Neil Patel scored 45 off 31 balls, while Hayden Barbour-Lovic contributed 40 from 24 deliveries. Captain Jack Cosnecke then kept Australia in the hunt with a superb 27-ball 55.
However, his dismissal in the 19th over effectively ended Australia’s hopes. They eventually finished on 175 for seven.
Chouhan completed an excellent all-round performance by taking two wickets for 28 runs. While he was rightly named the hero of the match, much of the attention remained firmly on the sons of two Indian cricket legends — Aryaveer Sehwag and Anvay Dravid.
