East Bengal Face a Tough AFC Champions League Two Group
East Bengal booked their place in the main round of the competition after defeating Kuwait’s Al Arabi. But the real test begins now. The Red and Gold Brigade have been drawn alongside Jordan’s Al Hussein, Iraq’s Al Shorta and Oman’s Al Seeb.
On paper, this is certainly not an easy group for East Bengal. Habas’ side will face a different challenge in almost every match as they prepare for the AFC Champions League Two group stage.
Al Hussein are one of Jordan’s strongest clubs. They won the Jordan Pro League for the third consecutive time last season and are known for their organised team play. Their ability to transition quickly, strong physical presence and recent performances in AFC competitions make them a formidable opponent.
Al Shorta are another major challenge. One of Iraq’s most successful clubs, they finished second in the Iraq Stars League last season and also featured in the league stage of the AFC Champions League Elite. Their wealth of experience at the continental level could prove crucial.
Al Seeb may appear to be the comparatively easier opponent for East Bengal, but they cannot afford to take the Omani side lightly. FC Goa defeated them last year, but Al Seeb have a strong continental pedigree, having won the AFC Cup in 2022.
The road ahead is undoubtedly difficult for East Bengal. However, Habas’ fighting side will be determined to make its presence felt and leave a lasting mark on the AFC Champions League Two.
