Carlos Tevez could be on the verge of making the impossible possible. For the first time ever, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could potentially play together in the same team.
For nearly two decades, Messi and Ronaldo have been two of the biggest faces of world football. Between them, the two superstars have won 13 Ballon d’Or awards. They have faced each other 37 times so far, dominating football while representing different clubs and countries. Now, a new chapter could be written in their legendary careers, with Messi and Ronaldo potentially taking the field together in the same jersey.
But how could this actually happen?
Boca Juniors icon Carlos Tevez is reportedly set to have his farewell match at the club’s legendary La Bombonera stadium in Argentina later this year. Tevez has invited several of his former teammates and close friends to take part in the special occasion, with both Messi and Ronaldo among the names invited.
Messi was Tevez’s former teammate with the Argentina national team, while Ronaldo shared the dressing room with Tevez during their time at Manchester United.
When journalists asked Tevez whether Messi and Ronaldo could end up playing on opposing sides, the former Argentina striker hinted that they could instead feature on the same team. In fact, that is exactly what Tevez wants.
Tevez retired from professional football in 2021 after his third spell with Boca Juniors. It has taken him almost five years to prepare what he describes as a final celebration of his career, but he wants to make the occasion truly unforgettable.
Around 60 football stars, including Messi and Ronaldo, have reportedly been invited to the farewell match. Now, all eyes will be on Tevez and whether his grand plan can produce one of the most extraordinary sights in football history — Messi and Ronaldo playing together in the same team.
