Before the red-card incident, Belgium launched wave after wave of attacks, but they could not break down Iran’s resilient defense. Much of the credit goes to goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand, who delivered a remarkable performance between the posts. Time and again, he produced outstanding saves, finishing the match with seven superb stops. On the other end, Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also made several excellent saves, matching Beiranvand’s heroics. For the first time in World Cup history, Iran earned points by drawing two consecutive matches.
Off the field, Iran have been battling numerous challenges. Visa complications and constant travel between the United States and Mexico have left the team with little recovery time. Yet they seemed to channel those struggles into their performance on the pitch, fighting with tremendous determination to claim a valuable point.
The turning point came in the 66th minute when Belgium’s Nathan Ngoy was shown a red card for fouling Iranian forward Mehdi Taremi and stopping a promising attack. From that moment, the complexion of the game changed. Reduced to ten men, Belgium’s attacking intensity dropped, while Iran began to push forward more aggressively in search of a goal.
Despite late efforts from both sides, neither team managed to find the back of the net, and the match ended in a goalless draw.
