Before scoring the goal, USMNT hero Alex Freeman was known by a very strange nickname
The 21-year-old is the son of former NFL receiver Antonio Freeman.
XtraTime NewsDesk: Alex Freeman has become a household name in America. The goal which he scored(which was not given initially given) has lifted his status among the USMNT faithful. To football fans, Freeman is a new face but to people on Tiktok and for those who follow NFL, his name might be familiar.
He is also known as "Diamond's little brother" on Tiktok. It's because his elder sister, Diamond Spaulding's comment under a video saying, "My lil brother playing for the US so cheer for #16"
By the time she returned from fan fest, her phone was flooded with notifications, and thousands of TikTok users had a new favorite U.S. men’s soccer player: “Diamond’s Little Brother.” His following doubled. His posts from late May and early June were overtaken by users who quickly abbreviated Freeman’s new nickname.
There were photoshops and AI-generated images with “DIAMOND’S LITTLE BROTHER” spelled out across the back of Freeman’s jersey.
She and Freeman — who are step-siblings but have considered each other sister and brother since Alex was a few years old — also leaned into the craze. Spaulding says Freeman had the idea to launch some merchandise. Spaulding, a community college student and aspiring nurse, stayed up with a friend past 2 a.m. customizing T-shirts. One, in big, bold letters, blares: “DLB.” Another has “AMERICA’S LITTLE BROTHER” overlaying a picture of Freeman in his USMNT kit.
The 21-year-old is the son of former NFL receiver Antonio Freeman. Antonio Freeman spent nine seasons in the NFL, eight of them with the Packers. He was a member of the Super Bowl XXXI-winning team, and he provided one of the all-time great Monday night highlights with a bouncing-ball catch and run for a score in overtime against the Vikings during the 2000 season.
