Morocco secured their first victory of the tournament by defeating Scotland 1-0. The match began with the fastest goal of the World Cup, as Morocco struck in the second minute. Just as they had done against Brazil, the combination of Brahim Díaz and Ismael Saibari produced an early breakthrough for Achraf Hakimi and his teammates.
Receiving a brilliant overhead pass from Díaz on the right wing, Saibari moved forward, lifted his head to assess the positions of his teammates and opponents, and then fired a precise shot into the net.
Morocco had started in similarly explosive fashion against Brazil, and they gave Scotland no opportunity to settle during the opening fifteen minutes of the match.
One statistic alone is enough to demonstrate the quality of this Moroccan side: they now hold the world record for the longest unbeaten run in international football. They have gone 39 consecutive matches without defeat, surpassing Argentina’s previous mark of 36 and Italy’s 37-match unbeaten streak.
So, where does this team stand out? Primarily in its combination of pace and skill. Several teams may play with comparable speed, but Morocco's technical quality at that pace sets them apart. In one-on-one situations, Moroccan players consistently have the edge, using both their quickness and ability on the ball.
Their main weakness, however, remains finishing. Once again, Morocco created enough chances to win by a much larger margin. Saibari could have doubled the lead within the first five minutes of the second half, but his effort was deflected onto the crossbar. Against stronger opponents later in the tournament, this lack of clinical finishing could become a serious concern for Hakimi and company.
Scotland deserve credit for the way they responded. After conceding so early against a powerful opponent, they refused to retreat into their shell. Instead, they remained positive, grew into the contest, and continued to fight. In the second half, they came close to scoring on several occasions.
The momentum shift was evident. Morocco's early storm gave way to a spirited Scottish surge in the closing stages. Yet despite their determination and attacking intent, Scotland could not find the equalizer.
This aspect will concern the Moroccan coaching staff. In both matches, Morocco dominated the first half but could not maintain the same level of control after the break. Even so, this team continues to command attention.
This Morocco side is making people think. It is making everyone think.
