FIFA Reportedly Denies France's Request to Wear Black Armbands in Memory of Didier Deschamps' Mother

The French national football team was reportedly denied permission by FIFA to wear black armbands in tribute to the late mother of head coach Didier Deschamps ahead of their crucial FIFA World Cup Group I clash against Norway.
According to reports in the French media, the French Football Federation (FFF) had requested approval for the players to wear black armbands as a mark of respect following the passing of Deschamps' mother. However, FIFA is said to have rejected the request.
Deschamps, 57, had already left the team's training camp in the United States earlier this week to return to France after the death of his mother. He was absent from the Norway match to attend her funeral, with assistant coach Guy Stéphan taking charge of the team in his place.
Initially, the FFF announced that a minute's silence would be observed before kickoff in memory of Deschamps' mother. However, the federation later withdrew the plan, explaining that FIFA had already scheduled an official pre-match tribute to honor the victims of the recent earthquake in Venezuela.
As an alternative, the FFF sought permission for the French players to wear black armbands during the match, but that request was also reportedly turned down by FIFA.
The decision has sparked debate within the football community, with many supporters questioning why the French team's request was not approved.
Despite the emotional setback caused by Deschamps' absence, France had already secured qualification for the World Cup knockout stage before facing Norway. As a result, the head coach's absence had no impact on the team's progression in the tournament.
FIFA has yet to issue a detailed official explanation regarding its reported decision to reject France's request.
