England's camp has been rocked by internal tension ahead of their blockbuster World Cup semi-final against Argentina. Head coach Thomas Tuchel and star midfielder Jude Bellingham have publicly differed in their assessment of England's quarter-final performance, creating an uneasy atmosphere within the squad.
England had to dig deep to overcome Norway in a hard-fought quarter-final. Speaking to television broadcasters after the match, Tuchel admitted that his side were fortunate to progress.
"We're happy with the result because we've reached the semi-finals," Tuchel said. "But I'm not satisfied with the team's performance. We made the game difficult for ourselves. There were moments of carelessness, technical mistakes, a lack of pace and a lack of consistency."
Tuchel's comments did not go down well with Bellingham.
The England midfielder arrived in the mixed zone wearing a smile, but his expression changed when asked about his coach's remarks.
"The coach has said what he feels," Bellingham responded. "But it was an extremely difficult game for us on the pitch. Every player gave absolutely everything, and I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the effort they put in."
Bellingham also pointed to the challenging conditions in Miami, where temperatures touched 40°C with humidity levels around 60 percent.
"Maybe the coach doesn't realise how difficult it is to play against players like Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard in those conditions," he said. "You don't always win matches by completing a thousand passes or playing perfect football. Sometimes you have to fight your way to victory, and that's exactly what we did."
The public exchange has reportedly created discomfort within the England camp, with the timing adding to the pressure ahead of a high-stakes World Cup semi-final against Argentina. As England prepare for one of their biggest matches of the tournament, the spotlight has shifted from their preparations on the pitch to growing questions over unity within the squad.
