Mohun Bagan were crowned Calcutta Football League champions after eight years, bringing the league's thrilling climax to a dramatic conclusion on Saturday. Five teams remained in contention for the title across three simultaneous matches. Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting battled in one fixture, while East Bengal faced Coal India and Bhowanipore took on United in the other matches.

The equation was simple: a victory for either Mohun Bagan or Mohammedan Sporting would guarantee the winning team the championship, regardless of the results in the other matches. Mohun Bagan ultimately delivered, defeating Mohammedan Sporting 3–2 to secure the coveted title.

A draw in the match would have kept East Bengal and Bhowanipore in contention. However, Mohun Bagan refused to let the opportunity slip away. Despite being reduced to 10 men, the Mariners completed a memorable victory.

Sahal Abdul Samad opened the scoring for Mohun Bagan, but Mohammedan Sporting quickly equalised through Remsanga. Mahitosh then converted a penalty to put Mohammedan Sporting 2–1 ahead. During this period, Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Zahir was shown a red card, leaving the team with a numerical disadvantage.

Despite the setback, Mohun Bagan staged a remarkable comeback. Sahal scored his second goal of the match before Sayan added another, securing a dramatic 3–2 victory and confirming their championship triumph.

Mohun Bagan's previous Calcutta Football League title came in 2018, making this an eight-year wait for the historic club. Determined to end their title drought, the team fielded several senior players who regularly feature in the Indian Super League (ISL).

Although the derby ended in a draw, Mohun Bagan eventually completed their mission by lifting the Calcutta Football League trophy, bringing an end to a long-awaited championship drought.
